I am writing this a week before I head to Brazil for the Pan Am games. And you are (quite possibly) reading this while I am on the plane headed to Brazil. I don’t know the outcome yet.
I haven’t been given assurance that in 4 days time I will be standing victorious on the podium having schooled all my opponents. I haven’t been given assurance that winning will put me on some kind of path of fame or fortune, or that in losing I will retain the respect and confidence of others. I could easily say at this point that I have everything to gain in winning, and much to lose by not winning. Life has taught me differently though.
In the past I have lost and gained a lot. And at other points in my life I have won and lost everthing. Ultimately what matters and has made the biggest difference for me over each experience being either a gain or a loss is if I am following my dream, or not!
I have had my share of successes that felt empty because I wasn’t following my heart. I learned from these experiences that winning isn’t the point.
I have also had my moments of loss and heart ache that looking back on now I can say, “Wow, I went for it. It didn’t happen but I loved every minute of the journey and even in the sorrow of that loss now I can look back and say I am so happy I did it!”.
We often think our greatest fear is failure. I know this isn’t true. I have failed and I am still here. I also can say that I am always proud of myself when I put my heart and soul into my endeavors and truly go for it!
I want you to GO FOR IT!
This year is it. For you, for me, and for all of us.
Actually every year is it!
And truly every day is it!
And even more honestly every moment is it!
Live in the present. Love who you are. Engage with others and share your life experiences. You are not alone in this world and connecting, following your passions, and going for it are the pieces in your life that really make up your happiness. More than achieving anything. Ever.
Let me know in the comments below how you are going to go for it this month! How about next year? What are you up to and what will you create and inspire in the world. I can’t wait to have you share it with me
