When life hands you lemons and you can’t in any conceivable way make lemonade…i.e., you don’t have access to the positive sugar you need, just add water.
Often, times get tough. Then they get tougher. You get bad news, followed by loss, and then the unthinkable, tragedy.
When it rains, it pours. You’ve got lots of lemons, and plenty of water… what with all that pouring rain.
Lemon water is very cleansing. Lemons cleanse and scrub and work away the dirt and grime, leaving behind a pristine surface.
Pain, heartache, tragedy can all have the same effect.
The abrasiveness is uncomfortable and always stings, but when the cleansing has stripped away all of the things that mattered you are left with a clean surface.
A fresh new arena to regroup and remember the most difficult times come to us for this exact reason.
So we can strip away the unnecessary.
The material drama that makes up what we believe matters and in truth does not.
Pain and lemons have a way of astringently reminding us of what truly does.
