One of the reasons je’ adore summer in the twin cities is our lakes. Lake Harriet + Bread & Pickle defines summer fun in this PYL post.
Thursday was an absolutely gorgeous night and I spent it with my gf Tanis. We have the best of times getting together each Thursday to do a little workout…hmm. Sometimes we hit the Harriet playground for pushups, pullups, squats and other strength training exercises. More often though, we take a walk around the lake to ooh and aww at the cute pups walking with their owners.
Last night we hooked up at the Wheel Fun Rental kiosk and checked out some stand up paddle boards. It wasn’t quite as simple as stepping on and paddling off and in the beginning we both had a few minor spills and got slightly wet. Shorts and t-shirt are recommended for this (I made the mistake of wearing sweatpants) but you don’t need a swimsuit. It was a bit windy so we might have picked a more difficult night for our first time on them.
It was really fun though. And after all was said and done we hit up Bread & Pickle for a beer and popcorn with live music playing in the background.
The scene was lively. Lots of people watching. Good laughs. A Beautiful night.
It felt like summer had arrived and I was fondly reminiscing on why I love my state so much without a thought of the bitter cold I endured over the winter.
When you’re looking for a fun night and want to have lots of options check out this spot. Just a few of the things you could do after parking your vehicle and stepping out…
- Paddle-boarding
- Water biking
- Nice Ride Kiosks for a quick bike around the lake
- Walk/blade/run around the lake
- Push ups, squats, pull ups, by the playground
- Swim/relax at the beach
- Food & drink + people watching at Bread & Pickle
- Lounging and listening to free live music
- Trolley rides
So many options you could really just show up and decide what floats your boat once you arrive. Whatever you decide to do it is sure to be fun.
To make it even better, bring a really great friend with you!
Xoxo, LVA
