It’s not easy being the underdog. Maybe you weren’t given the opportunities that others were given. Perhaps you have to work harder to stay in shape than those naturally athletic types. It is possible that even though you’ve been searching you haven’t yet found your natural talents. You might feel the idea of living your passions and dreams leaves you stumped.
Yeah, it isn’t easy being the underdog. When you aren’t the “favorite to win” people won’t bet on you, they might not give you the time of day, and often they are expecting you to fall flat on your face. It doesn’t sound like much fun, but I think if you are the underdog you should celebrate.
Yeah, CELEBRATE! I’ll give you three reasons right now why being the underdog is to your benefit.
1. You can easily fly under the radar when you need to. Everyone is watching the A-listers and the champions. Watching and waiting….for them to fall flat on their face so they can be “brought down a notch”. When you are the underdog you have plenty of opportunity to try things out, take your best shot, give it a go, and since no one is watching the underdog, you have as many chances as it takes to figure it out until you are ready to fly. All without any embarrassment of having your flops exposed.
2. Everyone loves a “Cinderella story”. Once you spent your time flying under the radar and you figure out what you need to do to win, you are are going to blow them out of the water when you come “out of nowhere to lead the pack”. Your story is one of legend and it wouldn’t be nearly as glorious if you started out in front. Coming from behind to win is always a great story to tell.
3. Victory tastes sweeter. Look, if you don’t give up. Like, really don’t give up, you will get there. I promise. You will win in the end or you will realize that you never needed to win. But if you NEED to win, you won’t give up and you WILL win. Just look at Rocky. He’s done it so many times now. You will travel some rough roads, and you might be the underdog now, but not for long, not if you keep going even when it gets rocky.
Whew! That was a lot of “Rocky” but did you notice that I quoted another movie that wasn’t ‘Rocky’ in this post? Leave a comment below letting me know which movie I quoted for a chance to win a gift card!
Keep your chin up. Unless you are in the ring, LVA-
