Think about the moment that you stand in line at a grocery store waiting to get checked out and you’re thinking about the dinner you’re going to make, the laundry that needs to be done, the project you submitted to your boss yesterday and wondering if you could have done a better job on it, and then you have a moment. You may not realize it yet but, giving is an act of presence.
In this moment you realize that the cashier is flustered, having a hard day, the peeps in front of you are giving her a hard time, she looks like she is ready to cry and possibly throw in the towel.
Time stops for you in this moment. You want to help. You are ready to offer a generous act.
All thought of what was or what needs to be done stops as you work over in your mind how you could possibly give her some comfort. You are living in the moment.
Ready to offer your heart to this person you’ve never met and willing to stop everything to tell her, when it is your turn to check out, that she is doing a beautiful job.
You are so grateful that she is there to check you out and bag your groceries.
You are grateful for who she is and what she is doing for you.
We interact with strangers a minimum of 3-4 times daily and every single time we do there is an opportunity to connect on a personal basis and give from our heart by offering our gratitude, our appreciation, and a thoughtful smile.
When we stop our thinking to mindfully connect and offer our generosity in a thank you, a compliment, or a genuine “how are you today”?, we are living in the present.
You live in the present when you give from your heart because generously offering yourself requires ALL of yourself. You can’t give fully while living in the past or in the future. Geninune giving happens in the present moment.
This month in IntenSati class we are discussing living in the present. An important piece of being present is giving all of yourself, without reservation.
This is so challenging because the biggest reason we hold back from offering ourselves fully is the fear of rejection.
Consider this. When you hold back, you may save yourself from judging eyes, but you will never be free to be all that you are.
Presence is giving all of yourself in each moment without concern for how you may be judged.
June Sati Series
The present is a gift I choose to accept
I focus on today
I give all I have to give
I am provided with exactly what I need
In this moment I excel
what I give is what I get
So I give my best
I trust the answers I receive
And I believe
it will work out for me
Everything is progress
I am persistent in my path
I am strong, Unstoppable
I am confident, Unwavering
I am learning everyday
Being me, the best that I can be
is exactly why I am here
Carpe diem!
