Our Great State Of Being

Every day I wake up I work to get by
I look for a chance to prove myself 
but to you it looks like the worst
no matter how hard I try
How can I measure up to your great state of being?

You do it right.

You do it first.

You do it because you don’t know nothin’ else.

Learned it from your father and my father tells me too

I gotta do it better than all the rest do.
How can I measure up to your great state of being?

Father God on high tells me love will get me by
but all my mistakes coupled with many great lies say
how can I measure up to your great state of being?

And being is this

it is being me

the best that I can be
Yet I never measure up to your great state of being.

Love heals. Love allows. Love wins. Love beats all.
So what if I don’t measure up to your great state of being.

In truth you are being all that you have learned.

Your criticism stings
yet it is all that you know

and how sad

even you can’t measure up to your great state of being.

Every day you wake up you work to get by.
You look for a chance to prove yourself 
but to you it looks like the worst

 So you judge harshly on my great state of being.

I look up.

I look ahead.

My place in this world is only half said.
There is more to come and in time you will see

my great state of being is more than you see.

And even now, right where I stand, I can say
I measure up to God’s desire for me
in my great state of being.
